Dutch song Willeke Alberti - Spiegelbeeld
with lyrics, music, video and English translation songtext

picture garland guirlande symbol of dutch songs translated English translation

Mirror image, please do tell me, is my age the same as yours
Is it true, am I twenty, are my teens for ever gone
I'm still young, but I'm no longer as young as I have been
I would like to return to the classroom once more

Mirror image, I hate you, not one day you will give back
Why do fly all those years when you're still young so real fast
I am still young, but there are already so many memories
Mirror image, I will never forget anything

Mirror image, my first boyfriend was as old then as I
And I got my first kiss from him, it was a lovely moment then
I'm still young, but I wished that I could do that again
Quick quick slow, my first dance lesson, how timid I was

All I have are some pictures and they tell me all again
It has passed, my first ball dress, I'll never wear again

'k Heb alleen nog wat foto's en die zeggen het me weer
't Is voorbij, mijn eerste baljurk die draag ik niet meer

Willeke Alberti (1945) is a Dutch actress and singer. She is the daughter of the famous Amsterdam singer of 'life songs' (levensliederen) Willy Alberti (1926-1985). She sang several duets with her father, but mainly had a career of her own.

In 1963 she scored a big hit with her single 'Mirror image'/'Spiegelbeeld'. This was a translation from the French song 'Tes tendres années (Johnny Hallyday) by Gerrit den Braber. She won an Edison Music Award for her first album (1965) and a Golden Harp oeuvre award in 1981.

In 1970 she played the leading role in the television series The little truth/De kleine waarheid and in 1975 she played the title character in the movie Red Sien/Rooie Sien. This last role brought her again a hit, 'Again and again'/'Telkens weer' (1975). She played in over ten films and released over 15 albums.

In 2001 she founded a non-profit foundation (Willeke Alberti Foundation) to organize activities in homes for elderly and tours along the houses herself with old and well-known songs.

Gerrit den Braber (1929-1997) was a Dutch lyrics writer. He worked for television and radio. He wrote (or translated) the lyrics of many songs - for artists like Willeke Alberti, Lenny Kuhr, Liesbeth List, Rob de Nijs and Conny Vandenbos. Most well-known songs from his hand are: 'Mirror image'/'Spiegelbeeld', 'The smile of a child'/'De glimlach van een kind', 'On the other side of the hills'/'Aan de andere kant van de heuvels', 'Rhythm of the rain'/'Ritme van de regen', and 'A rose, my dear Rosy'/'Een roosje, m'n Roosje'.
