Dutch song Liesbeth List - Laat me niet alleen, Ne me quitte pas
with lyrics, music, video and English translation songtext

picture garland guirlande symbol of dutch songs translated English translation

Don't abandon me
Please, forget our fights
Please, forget the hate
Don't abandon me
And those stupid days
The mistakes we made
Just forget those days
It was waisted time
All the times we used
Sharp and cutting words
Killing our bliss
Well, thats over now
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me

Laat me niet alleen
Toe, vergeet de strijd
Toe, vergeet de nijd
Laat me niet alleen
En die domme tijd
Vol van misverstand
Ach, vergeet hem, want
't Was verspilde tijd
Hoe vaak hebben wij
Met een snijdend woord
Ons geluk vermoord
Kom, dat is voorbij
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Dear, I search for you
In the dust of the dirt roads
The pearls of the rain drops
The pearls of the dew
I will my whole life long
Work on without breaks
Just to give you light
Gold and things and pleasures
I will found a realm
Where the love will reign
Where love always pays
And your wish commands
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me

Lief, ik zoek voor jou
In het stof van de wegen
De paarlen van regen
De paarlen van dauw
Ik zal heel mijn leven
Werken zonder rust
Om jou licht en lust
Goud en goed te geven
Ik sticht een gebied
Waar de liefde troont
Waar de liefde loont
Waar jouw wil geschiedt
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Don't abandon me
I invent for you
New words red and blue
Language just for you
And with warm mouth I
Will tell you a tale
An old couple once
Found each other back
And I tell you too
Of a lady who died
Nostalgically
Longing so for you
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me

Laat me niet alleen
Ik bedenk voor jou
Woorden rood en blauw
Taal voor jou alleen
En met warme mond
Zeggen wij elkaar
Eens was er een paar
Dat zichzelf weer vond
Ook vertel ik jou
Van een jonkvrouw die stierf
Van nostalgie
Hunkerend naar jou
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Because a volcano
That is extinct
After some calm years
Will erupt again
And on ancient land
You can see the grain
Growing higher than
On some fresh young land
The white loves the black
Weakness loves great strength
Daylight loves the night
My heart loves your heart
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me

Want uit een vulkaan
Die was uitgeblust
Breekt zich na wat rust
Toch het vuur weer baan
En op oude grond
Ziet men vaak het graan
Heel wat hoger staan
Dan op verse grond
Het wit mint het zwart
Zwakheid mint de kracht
Daglicht mint de nacht
Mijn hart mint jouw hart
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

picture garland guirlande symbol of dutch songs translated English translation

Don't abandon me
No, I cry no more
No, I speak no more
All I want is just
Hearing how you speak
Watching how you laugh
Knowing how you walk
Softly through the room
I don't ask no more
I just want to be
Your footstep, your shade
I want to be your breath
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me
Don't abandon me

Laat me niet alleen
Nee, ik huil niet meer
Nee, ik spreek niet meer
Want ik wil alleen
Horen hoe je praat
Kijken hoe je lacht
Weten hoe je zacht
Door de kamer gaat
Nee, niets vraag ik meer
'k Wil je schaduw zijn
'k Wil je voetstap zijn
'k Wil je adem zijn
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen
Laat me niet alleen

Liesbeth List (1941) was born as Elisabeth Driessen. Her mother committed suicide shortly after the Second World War (she had been imprisoned in a Japanese internment camp in Indonesia). Liesbeth was eventually adopted by the List family on the isle of Vlieland.

After moving to Amsterdam, singer Ramses Shaffy asked her to join the group Shaffy Chantant, which was very successful for many years. Liesbeth List recorded over 25 albums, mostly with ballads, translations of French chansons and other 'luisterliedjes' ('listening songs'). In 1969, Liesbeth List released an album with only Brel songs: Liesbeth List sings Jacques Brel/Liesbeth List zingt Jacques Brel. She received two Edison Music Awards (1971, 1995) and a Golden Harp (1998).

From 1999 onward, she played the role of the famous French singer Edith Piaf in the musical Piaf (1999-2000) and an older Piaf in the sequel (2009-2010). Both times Liesbeth List won the Kraaijkamp Musical Award for best leading role.

In 1999 she had again a big hit, with the chanson 'Be in love with life'. In 2017 List announced she ended her singing career, due to memory problems. In the same year her biography was published and a musical about her life and career was staged in the theatres.

The song 'Don't abandon me'/'Laat me niet alleen' (in French: 'Ne me quitte pas') was written by the famous Belgium singer Jacques Brel (1929-1978). Some of his greatest hits were 'Ne me quitte pas'/'If you go away' (1959); 'Marieke' (1961); 'Le Plat Pays'/'My flat low land' (1962); Bruxelles/'Brussels' (1963); 'Amsterdam' (1964); and 'Les vieux amants'/'Long lasting love' (1967).

Ernst van Altena (1933-1999) was a poet and translator. Brel was so pleased with Altena's tranlations of his songs, that he granted Ernst van Altena the copyright of all his translated songs. This unique contract is worldwide still unparalleled till this day. Ernst van Altena received the Martinus Nijhoff Translation Award (1965) and the Hiëronymus Translation Award (1994) and he was knighted two times in France.
