Dutch song Rita Hovink - Laat me alleen
with lyrics, music, video and English translation songtext

picture garland guirlande symbol of dutch songs translated English translation

Leave me alone
With all my sorrow and grief
It's better to have no one now around
No one, no one, no one who can comfort me
I have lost my future and my goal

Laat me alleen
Alleen met al mijn verdriet
’t Is beter dat ik nu geen mensen zie
Niemand, niemand, niemand die me troosten kan
Ik verloor mijn toekomst en mijn doel

picture garland guirlande symbol of dutch songs translated English translation

Leave me alone
With all my sorrow and grief
A smile is just a parody for me
Someone, someone, someone who felt happiness
And who lost it, knows my feelings now

Laat me alleen
Alleen met al mijn verdriet
Een glimlach, dat wordt pure parodie
Iemand, iemand, iemand die gelukkig was
En verloor, begrijpt wat ik nu voel

I have here his last glass
Some cigarettes and his last bouquet too
And I feel his hand on my shoulder
And his voice: "All this will be all right"
But I can't believe this somehow
This goodbye was very different than before
This was final I know, and now I'm alone
And I loved him so well

"Well, this happens so many times
Your smile will soon return
You'll forget all about him"
Everyone says so in my surroundings
But I know: that is not true
All these tears will never dry
And these feelings never end
Because grief over a real love
Is a burden that's too heavy
He no longer loves me

"Ach, het komt toch wel vaker voor
Straks komt je glimlach weer
Ben je hem weer vergeten"
Dat zegt iedereen in mijn omgeving
Maar ik weet: dat is niet waar
Deze tranen drogen niet
Dit gevoel gaat nooit voorbij
Want verdriet om echte liefde
Is te zwaar om mee te dragen
Want hij houdt niet meer van mij

Rita Hovink (1944-1979) was a Dutch singer. She sang both in Dutch and in English and was known for her warm, low alto and her theatrical tone of voice. Rita Hovink became seriously ill in 1976, 32 years old. She died in 1979 of cancer, only 35 years old. She left a daughter behind.

Hovink released seven singles and four albums during her life; four other albums came out posthumously. Other modest hits were 'That first kiss'/'Die eerste zoen' (1964); 'Ay Dolores' (1976); and 'Antonio' (1977).

The song 'Leave me alone'/'Laat me alleen' (1976) was originally written in Italian by Paolo Dossena, Cesare Gigli, Maurizio Monti and Giovanni Ullu. The Dutch lyricist Gerrit den Braber didn't translate the Italian songtext, but wrote his own lyrics on the melody (also about a lost love).

The song was not an enourmous hit (number 29 in the Top 40), but is still every year voted into the Top 2000 (broadcasted the last week of every year).
