Come with me, this evening, to our favourite restaurant
A table for two, I made the call, they know that we come
We'll keep drinking until the sun will rise
And we forget how unfair and unjust fate can be

Ga je mee vanavond naar ons lievelingsrestaurant
Een tafel voor twee, ik heb gebeld, ze weten er van
En we drinken totdat de zon opkomt
En we vergeten de oneerlijkheid van het lot

Now let's go, put your coat on, or it will be too late
Come to me, I'll hold you tight, I'll never let you go
And I will tell you a joke, so that the laughter makes you cry
And we ignore the staring people, looking at us in the town

Kom we gaan, trek je jas aan, anders wordt het te laat
Kom eens hier, ik houd je vast, ik laat je nooit meer gaan
En ik vertel je een grap, die je laat huilen van de lach
En we vergeten de blikken van de mensen in de stad

picture garland guirlande symbol of dutch songs translated English translation

We'll pretend as if it is not true
As if it is not true
As if it is not true

We doen net alsof het niet zo is
Alsof het niet zo is
Alsof het niet waar is

picture garland guirlande symbol of dutch songs translated English translation

We'll pretend as if she just keeps living on
As if she just keeps living on
Even if it's not the truth

We doen net alsof ze gewoon verder leeft
Alsof ze gewoon verder leeft
Zelfs als het niet zo is

The Frank Boeijen Group (1979-1991), with singer-songwriter Frank Boeijen (1957), was a Dutch 'Nederpop'-band ('Netherpop'). This word refers to the sudden growth of Dutch language pop music in the Netherlands in the eighties (with bands like Doe Maar, Het Goede Doel, Drukwerk, Klein Orkest and Toontje Lager).

The biggest hits of the Frank Boeijen Group include: 'Don't think white, don't think black'/'Denk niet wit, denk niet zwart' (1984); 'Kronenburg Park' (1985); and 'Tell me please it is not true'/'Zeg me dat het niet zo is' (1990). They released 11 albums.

Frank Boeijen wrote the song 'Zeg me dat het niet zo is' (1990) because of the death of his mother in law of that time (he was married from 1990-1994). The songs of Frank Boeijen are known for his poetic and melancholic lyrics, and music that sounds in between popmusic and chansons. After the band quited in 1991, Boeijen started a solo career.

In 2004 he won an Edison Music Award for his entire oeuvre and in 2015 he won the Lennaert Nijgh Award for best lyrics writer.
