Dutch song Bonnie St. Claire - Bonnie kom je buiten spelen
with lyrics, music, video and English translation songtext

picture garland guirlande symbol of dutch songs translated English translation

I lived in this street as a child
Can I find here still anything back
With melancholy I look 'round
I know this place, but feel alone
The house is still standing at least
But new names written on our front door
Near that street light I lost all my marbles once
My ball fell down into this drain
I feel so lost and I hear
still an echo allaying from far

Bonnie, Bonnie
Bonnie, come play outside with us
Bonnie, hurry to the street
Bonnie, I have chewing gum for sharing
Bonnie, do you have a talking doll
All those memories you never lose
Where have they gone, those good old days

Bonnie, Bonnie

My street, yes, I grew out my street
Is here someone still knowing me now
Grandma lived 'round the corner, a square
There's no reason going there now
We hopscotched on the playing field
Now the cars stand there parking in rows
Here I got a lump on my head
I got liquorice to calm down

And there on the sidewalk we hung
Around and we had so much fun
My first kiss, I got it near that tree
What on earth am I doing here
I feel so lost and I hear
still an echo allaying from far

Bonnie St. Claire (1949), stage name of Bonje Swart, is a Dutch singer. As 17-year old girl, she was asked on stage during a concert of Peter Koelewijn, to sing along a song. He arranged a record contract for her and she released some singles (both in English and in Dutch).

Her biggest hits include: 'Doctor Bernard'/'Dr. Bernard' (1976); 'I am happy without you'/'Ik ben gelukkig zonder jou' (1977); 'Put your arm around me'/'Sla je arm om mij heen' (1983); and 'Harlequin'/'Pierrot' (1980). The latter one, together with above song, are her most well-known hits.

Since the 1990's her success diminished and from 2004 onward she was several times in the news because of alcohol problems. She still appears in television shows now and then, and in 2010 she scored a big hit with singer and television host Gerard Joling, 'Tomorrow it will all be different'/'Morgen wordt alles anders'.

Cor Aaftink (1934-2010) was a producer. Together with Roy Beltman, he was the regular producer for the English singing band BZN. They also wrote some songs, like 'Harlequin'/'Pierrot' and above song for Bonnie St. Claire.
