Bloem ('Flower', 1980-1983) was a Dutch 'Nederpop'-band ('Netherpop'). This word refers to the sudden growth of Dutch language pop music in the Netherlands in the eighties (with bands like Doe Maar, Frank Boeijen Group, Drukwerk, Klein Orkest and Het Goede Doel).
Bloem was founded by singer and pianist Joost Timp (1956). The other band members were: Tom Sijmons (guitar), Cor Claessen (bass guitar) and Juus Piek (drummer). They only released two albums (in 1980 and 1982) and reached the Top 40 with just three singles.

Their only big hit was above song, the coming of age song and funny love song 'I will quickly ask my mother'/'Even aan m'n moeder vragen' (1980). It was in the National Hit Parade Top 40 for five weeks and was later voted into the Top 2000 (traditionally broadcasted on the radio the last week of the year) for ten years in a row (1999-2008).
The band is considered to be an example of an one-hit wonder ('eendagsvlieg'/'one-day fly'). Songwriter Joost Timp is the son of the famous television host Mies Bouwman (1929-2018), who was nick-named: the Queen of the Dutch Television. After the band Bloem had ended, Timp had a career in the television industry as creative consultant.
