Albert de Booy (1897-1971), was a singer and songwriter from Rotterdam. He was part of the radio ensemble The Twerping Whistlers/De Flierefluiters (1932-1939) and he made tours with and wrote songs for the swinging jazz band The Ramblers.

He recorded songs like 'Carolientje' (1933); 'When the organ sounds'/'Als het orgel speelt' (1934); 'Cornflower blue'/'Korenbloemenblauw' (1939); and many records with folk and children's songs. But his biggest hit was the liberation song about Trees (short for Theresia) and her Canadian soldier.

Above song 'Trees and her Canadian'/'Trees heeft een Canadees' (1945) was a big hit after the liberation of the Netherlands. During the Second World War, the Netherlands were occupied by Nazi-Germany (1940-1945). The country was liberated by mainly American, British and Canadian soldiers in the fall of 1944 and the spring of 1945.

During the extreme happiness and the festivities when the war had ended (May 1945), many Dutch girls indeed had an affair with an allied soldier. Over 7000 babies were born out of wedlock in the next year - when the fathers already for a long time had returned to their home countries.

Above video is a later recording by Dick Doorn. The only online recording by Albert de Booy in 1945, is just the refrain of the song (link opens youtube).
