André van Duin (1947), stage name of Adrianus Kyvon, is a Dutch comedian, singer and songwriter. In his theatre and revue shows, he plays hilarious skits as silly characters, with funny voice and faces, sometimes slapstick-like, often with absurd humour. As singer he is mostly known for his carnival songs, funny songs and party songs (often sung as funny character of one of his revue shows).
In the 1970's Van Duin had a famous radio show, called the Thick Pulleditoff Show/Dik Voormekaar Show (1973-1985 and 2000-2003). Together with Ferry de Groot, he recorded the voices of over 20 characters. On television, Van Duin was involved in programmes like Animal Crackers (1988, 2013), At land, at sea and in the air/Te land, ter zee en in de lucht (1971-2010) and Who am I/Wie ben ik (1990-2001).
Some of his most famous songs are: 'The maracas samba'/'De sambaballensamba' (1975); 'Little Willem'/'Willempie' (1976); 'Tinkletinkleting, what is that thing'/'Tingelingeling, wat is dat voor een ding' (1978); 'Netherland has got the ball'/'Nederland die heeft de bal' (1980); and the 'Pizza song'/'Pizza-lied' (1993). He released over 30 albums. He won the Toon Hermans Award (2006) and the Image and Sound Oeuvre Award (2010).

Above song is a famous carnival song. The content is nonsense. It was in the Top 40 for eight weeks (highest position: 6), but it's still every year populair during carnival.
Carnival (the three days before the Lent, in February or March) is in the Netherlands mainly celebrated in the southern (catholic) provinces (Brabant and Limburg). People wear funny clothes and wigs, or are disguised e.g. like farmers, clowns, men as women, or as famous people (sometimes with party noses or masks). The feasts are about foolishness, mockery, exuberance and reversal of normal values. Prince Carnival takes the place of the mayor for three days, villages are decorated and have big parades.
A carnival song (in Dutch a 'carnavalskraker'/'carnival smasher') is a song specially made for the festivities during carnival. The lyrics are funny nonsense, easy to sing along, and the music is ment for 'hossen' (dancing simply, wobbling) and the polonaise (people walking on the beat of the music in a long row, hands on each other's shoulders). Many villages in Brabant and Limburg have carnival song competitions. The music is played by marching bands, 'dweilorkesten' (with instruments like trumpets, trombones and baritone horns).
Other carnival songs that were big hits, are: Toon Hermans, 'Mien, where is my nose' (1968); Oh Sixteen, 'In Brabant life always is good' (1979, became an evergreen); Wim Kersten, 'A curtain with a flower print' (1980); André van Duin, 'Netherland has got the ball' (football song, 1980); and Arie Ribbens, 'In Brabant nights last long' (1980).
